Quito!

We have been in Quito for 2 days.  The first day was pretty easy as we got acclimated to being at 9,200 feet of altitude.  We met up with our friends Judy and Charlie.  We had a great lunch at a local Italian restaurant and then walked across the city to see the local people and places.  We got back to the hotel and took a break before dinner.

For dinner we went to a very special restaurant Casa Gangangitena and we had an amazing dinner.  The food and the wine and the service was outstanding.  We enjoyed talking about our travels and our expectations of this trip.

Today we had a city tour of Quito and much took us to many interesting places.  We started at an overlook above the city of 2 million people which is high in the Andes mountains.  Next was a local market which showed us how people bought their groceries.  Then on to a chocolate tasting which was a lot of fun.  Next was visits to two churches which were both very beautiful.  We finished back at the cafe Gangangitena for lunch.  What a great day.

Tonight we went to a local Ecuadorian restaurant for potato soup and empanadas and lots of good wine.  What a great last night in Quito.

Tomorrow we awake at 4 Am to catch our flight to Galapagos.  By tomorrow afternoon we will be on a boat a thousand miles from here.
