Monday - to Cusco then the Sacred Valley

We flew to Cusco this morning. Early start at 5:30 AM to get our bags out by 6 then a quick breakfast and into the bus by 7. One hour bus ride in heavy traffic then into the terminal and thru security and then sit and wait. Airport was very nice.

Flight to Cusco was smooth and you land at one of the highest airports in the world - 11,600 feet. It was great to look down as we flew up into the Andes. Cusco airport is a a lot simpler but very busy. Our bags came out before we got there and we loaded up into a bus for the ride down into the sacred valley. We had a wonderful lunch on the way as we navigated the thru the big city of Cusco and into the smaller villages of the sacred valley.

We visited a very interesting Inca site where they worked to cross breed thousands of plants to increase production. Specifically corn and potato seeds were found going back centuries. The round terraces were beautiful and the goal was to grow more food with less land to feed a growing population. They spend at least decades and probably centuries doing hybrid work to create the best plants for these altitudes and soils.  They brought soil from across the Inca empire to work to create better plants.  We believe it was advances like this that helped the Inca empire continue to grow with more people and healthier people.

We finished in a beautiful resort with individual casitas. Another 5 star place. We continue to see so much and experience so much.
